Real Madrid: Gareth Bale will return 'stronger' after exit

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale says he will return stronger for Real Madrid after receiving criticism from his own fans during their Champions League semi-final defeat by Juventus.

The 25-year-old Wales forward missed several opportunities as Juve set up a final against Barcelona.

"There have been some ups and downs but I think I've played well," he said.

"What doesn't kill me makes me stronger and I'll learn from this season and take it on."

Bale is the world's most expensive player after being signed in a £85.3m deal from Premier League side Tottenham in September 2013.

The ex-Southampton trainee scored 24 goals in 46 games during his debut season, helping Madrid win the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

But he has been jeered by some supporters this season, faced heavy criticism from sections of the Spanish press and was whistled by some fans during Real's 1-1 second leg draw with Italian champions Juventus, which saw Juve progress 3-2 on aggregate.

Bale, who has scored 15 goals in 45 matches this season, added on Sky Sports: "I've maybe not scored as many important chances as I'd like but my general play has been good. My finishing is not as good and that's something to work on for next year.

"We wanted to be in the Champions League final, we gave ourselves a chance of winning but it's not to be and we go again next year."

Let´s remember this amazing goal against Barcelona.

Social media reacts to Suarez-Chiellini rematch

Champions League: Social media reacts to Suarez-Chiellini rematch
Barcelona's Luis Suarez will come face-to-face with Giorgio Chiellini in next month's Champions League final after Juventus' victory over Real Madrid.

Suarez, 28, was banned from football for four months after biting Italy's Chiellini at the World Cup last summer.

The game in Berlin will be their first meeting since that infamous encounter.

Chiellini's name was trending third worldwide on Twitter after the match, with social media users keen to poke fun at Suarez's expense.

Former Liverpool striker apologised to 30-year-old Chiellini following their clash in the World Cup group match in Natal. The Italian defender accepted and said the matter was "all forgotten".

The Champions League final on 6 June will also throw Suarez into action against Juve defender Patrice Evra. While at Liverpool, Suarez was found guilty by an FA panel of racially abusing Evra, then at Manchester United, during a match at Anfield in 2011

Why women hate football and why men love football?

Imagine that today there’s a football game. It’s very bad news if you’re girl and more if your boyfriend loves it.

As a woman, you don't like it either because you don’t find it a meaning, it last a long time, you can't talk during the game, for you, it’s boring and you’re forced to see it with him and you have to deal with his friends, it makes men become crazy, it’s a good excuse for them to get drunk and you feel ignored when he’s seeing a game.

As a man, you have the need to prove your masculinity, your father taught you that and you’ll teach your kids the same thing because football it’s one of the closest sports to overcome your enemies and you´ll defend your favorite team with everything you can.

Watch a game helps you to release those dreams of being a professional player. Men love football because they learned that who doesn't like football, is not a man and it’s the easiest way to socialize with other men.

Every person has likes and dislikes, it’s something natural, you can’t do anything about it, you don’t have to judge a person only for liking sports or other things and either for being a girl and like football or being a guy and dislike football, it doesn’t matter that much to me, the most important thing it´s being you whether people like it or not, you don’t have to change yourself only for being a better women or being a better men to people.

Hernandez the hero

For a long time it seemed that Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez was set to be the villain, as the Mexico international missed two gilt-edged second-half chances to give Real Madrid the lead.
But the story ended very differently as, after Atletico midfielder ArdaTuran had been sent off for two yellow cards, Hernandez was on hand to turn in Cristiano Ronaldo's superb assist. The goal, with just two minutes of normal time remaining, sent the Bernabeu crowd into raptures and the holders into the last four of the competition for the fifth successive year.
Hernandez was only starting due to the knee injury picked up Karim Benzema in last week's first leg. Before Wednesday, he had played 784 total minutes -- across 24 games -- since joining on loan from Manchester United in the summer. On international duty last month he spoke of shedding tears of frustration at his lack of opportunities but, by the end of this game, his emotions were much more positive.
For a long time it seemed as if the opposite might be the case. Early in the second half, Isco's through ball sent Hernandez through on goal. He had time to take a touch, but instead snapped at the chance and sent the ball wide of the right-hand post. Another clear chance came just after Turan had been sent off but, again, the finish was rushed, and the ball went wide of the left-hand upright.
But there was still time. With most inside the stadium preparing for 30 more minutes, and maybe penalties, Ronaldo broke down the right side of the Atletico box. The Portuguese waited and waited, drew Atletico keeper Jan Oblak towards him and then squared to give Hernandez a chance to sweep the ball into the unguarded net.
All thoughts of previous missed opportunities were wiped away in an instant. All that matters now is that Madrid are into Friday's draw, where they will be joined by La Liga rivals Barcelona, Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich and Juventus. Whatever else happens between now and the end of the season, Chicharito's year in Madrid will forever be fondly remembered at the Bernabeu.

Marco Verratti is 'unsellable' says agent, as PSG quash transfer talk

Marco Verratti's agent has claimed Paris Saint-Germain see the Italy international midfielder as "unsellable" as he is so valuable to the French champions.

Since arriving at the Parc des Princes from Pescara a relative unknown in 2012, Verratti has made a name for himself, helping PSG to back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and earning himself international recognition.

In acknowledgement of his weightier status within Laurent Blanc's squad, the 22-year-old signed a more lucrative contract extension through to 2019 earlier this season, his second improved deal in less than a year.

And his representative, Donato Di Campli, said they will fend off all-comers for their much-sought-after midfielder, tellingTuttoMercatoWeb: "For PSG, he's unsellable. He's not on the market."

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique caused a wave of speculation his club could make a move for Verratti when he admitted he was a fan of the PSG player just 24 hours before Tuesday's Champions League quarterfinal second leg between the pair.

"It would please any player," Verratti told Sky Sports after being asked for his reaction to the Barca coach's comments. "But PSG believed in me when no-one expected it and I would like to repay that faith."

Verratti has spoken of his close ties to ex-PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti, and Di Campli acknowledged the Real Madrid coach and his former protege remain close, saying: "Verratti has an extraordinary relationship with Carlo Ancelotti. Who knows, perhaps one day they'll be reunited?"

Juventus to the final

Alvaro Morato scores against his former club Real Madrid

  • Juventus reach first CL final since 2003
  • Will face Barcelona in Berlin on 6 June
  • Real Madrid look set to miss out on La Liga
  • Ancelotti unsure of Real future

Juventus will meet Barcelona in the Champions League final after Alvaro Morata scored against his former club to knock holders Real Madrid out.

Real trailed 2-1 from the first leg but levelled on aggregate through Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty after James Rodriguez was caught by Giorgio Chiellini.
A first 'El Clasico' final looked on the cards until Morata fired into the ground and past Iker Casillas.
Gareth Bale and Rodriguez went close but Juventus held on.
While Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri will deservedly win praise for leading the Italians to their first Champions League final since 2003 in hisfirst season in charge, questions are likely to be raised about the future of Real manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Trailing Barcelona by four points in the Spanish title race, Real face ending the season with only the Fifa Club World Cup. and Uefa Super Cup.
And it was a player Ancelotti - who managed Juve from 1999-2001 - allowed to leave who ended his hopes of retaining the title they won in Lisbon last season.
Morata, who also scored in the first leg, again refused to celebrate after his 57th-minute goal proved decisive.
